Make Magazine: DIY Music

I’ve been reviewing O’Reilly publications all week. I got ahold of Make Magazine: DIY Music (Technology on Your Time Volume #15) this time. It was fun reading about the various music hacks, brought me back to my hardware hacking days of undergrad and more recently Dartmouth Digital Musics.

The Nine Inch Nails / Janes Addiction tour has put some free mp3s and even wav files up for DRM free download. There are a couple of tracks by the Street Sweepers as well. I don’t know there music, but their tracks on the site are pretty cool.
Remixin Launches New Website!
Remixin.com has launched a new music website. It’s a creative networking site for musicians, djs and composers to share their music and have other remix it. Each remix uploaded to site can also be remixed. Each song uploaded to the website spawns a Remix Tree that is generated as members evolve the music through interative remixing.
Ogg Vorbis and FLAC in iTunes
If you are using a mac or PC and want to add Vorbis (*.ogg) and FLAC (*.flac) playback to iTunes and Quicktime then these two apps are very handy. I just recently installed them and they work great. Fluke is used to add FLAC playback and XiphQT is used to add Vorbis playback. Instructions to install and use these apps are included on the Fluke and XiphQT websites.
Derivative Noise
This is another version of the #4, 7 min version previously posted. It’s recorded at monkeytown in brooklyn.

Air Attack, the collaoration
This Saturday we’re premiering our latest work called Air Attack. It’s a collaboration between Stephanie Sleeper (Choreography) and John Arroyo (Composition).
It’s a show of Modern Dance and Electro-Acoustic Music. It’s also the first time the full program is of works that we’ve collaborated on. We even have a special improv in the works, it’s going to be a cool show!

Come out to the India Queen Friday!
Electrocab will be playing another fine gig at the India Queen in Hanover, this Friday February 15th at 8PM. Come out to hear some new tunes as well as percussionist Beau Sievers. A double shot of goodness!
Sexual Seduction
This is a new video from snoop dogg, “Sexual Seduction”. The term sexual seduction is pretty retarded if you think about it, but the video is brilliant! It’s worth checking out. Watch the video here (embeding is disabled). The video below is Zapp & Roger Troutman, the talkbox inspiration for snoop’s new track. Thanks Coffelt for the links.
Messing around at the India Queen
This is Yune Lee and myself doing some improv at the India Queen in Hanover, NH. We didn’t practice much together so it’s very rough, but I think it’s a kind of fun set. Earlier Lee was shredding with a solo set and afterwards I joined Electrocab for a set.
Happy New Year!
Welcome to 2008, here’s a little video to celebrate. Some lo-fi latin flavored stuff
Vinyl continues to die
Allthough the use and popularity of vinyl is holding, the underlying infrastructure for pressing and distributing it is dying. Vinyl pressing quality varies greatly these days and the know how of running vinyl production machines is diminishing, not to mention good mastering services for vinyl aren’t always easy to find. Bottom line, more vinyl distributors are filing for bankruptcy. This is a deadly blow to vinyl, especially dance music vinyl.
New Electrocab video
Electrocab added a new video. It’s from a live performance at the Spheris Gallery. I wrote the song, it’s me in the back on the decks. The lyrics are from a poem, I draw a line by my friend Seldon Yuan
